Cold Weather Advisory Policy

Dear Parents/ Guardians:

Please be advised if the weather is –40 that there will be No School for the students and No Buses will be running.  At this temperature it is dangerous for anyone to be outdoors and the policy is for the safety of our children and staff.  Also be aware that Bus Drivers can refuse transporting your child if they are not dressed properly for the weather.

You can also listen to local radio stations or check P.A. NOW on the internet.  We also relay the info to the Muskoday Facebook page and on the Community Billboard as well.

The Principal and Bus Drivers make their decisions on the morning of a cancellation.  We know this is a hardship on some families but we do not want to close if we do not need to.  We all know how fast our weather can change and if we cancel the day before and the weather turns out to be nice we have closed for no reason.  So please bare with us during this crazy weather and know that we are doing our best and the weather is out of our control.  Our Education Authority is currently reviewing our Policy & Procedure Manual and we may see new changes in the future.  :)

MFNCS Recess Weather Policy:

Students are expected to be outside at all break times, weather permitting.

Wind-chill equivalent guidelines are as follow:

  •  Down to -25 degrees Celsius (students stay outside)
  • -25 degrees Celsius to -30 degrees Celsius ( students must go out, but may come in the entry ways to warm up).
  • -30 degrees Celsius or colder (an announcement will be made and students must stay inside).
  • Listening to Power 99/CKBI and viewing PA Now will provide information on buses running and the wind-chill factor call to be made between 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM.  Please set your radio to the applicable radio station.
  • Should the weather be -35 or colder, a late start of 10:00 AM , may be initiated by the Principal.

Please ensure that your children are dressed appropriately for the Saskatchewan Weather—boots, mitts, toque, scarf, ski-pants, winter jacket.

The buses are contracted through MFN.  They will make the call regarding whether it is safe for the buses to run; whether buses run or not does not determine whether the school will be open.

Please check agendas on a daily basis as important information is coming home to the school and your family might be the lucky winner of a grocery gift card appearing in your agenda books.

Please refer to page 7 of the agenda for important cold weather information.
